I've been thinking about building a little narrow-gauge railroad, which would actually be easier than building roads across my property. the problem with using traditional wooden ties and stakes/spikes is the soil here is very sandy and liquefies when it rains, so the rails would sink and slide around. the sinking you can fix by having a big enough flange that contacts the ground. for the sliding I was thinking rather than using spikes and ties, of using ground anchors positioned outboard of the rails and knitting the rails together and to the ground anchors with steel cable. the knitting between the rails pulls them toward each other and the knitting of the rails to the ground anchors pulls them apart. terrible drawing attached

this is also a problem with ad targeting (though thankfully ad targeting doesn't kill people). ad buyers (the equivalent of analysts) have to say they care about targeting but what they care about more is reach. in order for an ad campaign to be worthwhile it has to reach a minimum number of people. so if you give them a tool that gives accurate reach estimates for a given targeting they will defeat the targeting in order to make the reach number big enough. eg: one customer of a place I worked years ago started with likely buyers of a particular type of car but ended up targeting everyone within five miles of a gas station to get enough reach (which is pretty much everyone) https://girlcock.club/@poppyhaze/111501776552855271

I'm too lazy to make an actual project build log but I just realized I can give projects their own fedi accounts. I run my own fedi server, no one can complain

these are really cool. discharge 60kW for 1.8 seconds with just over a pound of stuff that costs ~$600 (not counting bus bars) https://assets.website-files.com/5dc8ead8c19d433eb7097216/60862b0b0819812cd0ce426c_LICAP_SC3000-270-ASC_Datasheet_052720.pdf

love that amtrak uses passenger-carrying trains to move their broken locomotives, delaying trsins by 1-2 hours while they connect them
